Augustine

Saint Augustine was the first to introduce a developed idea of predeterminism. He became committed to the idea of predestination. Augustine’s experience of sin and grace compelled him to think of Christ’s objective work of salvation originated with God and so the human response to that work originated from God as well. Those who accept or reject the gospel do so because of the divine will of God. The human decision made in time is from the eternal decision of God. (cf. my notes on Jewett’s, Election and Predestination for more on Augustine).
